The European Court of Justice overturned the European Commission's decision of 2016 to recover a record €13 billion from Apple for violating European tax rules and state subsidies. The European Commission was unable to prove in court that the Irish government's tax benefits gave the American technology giant an advantage. Now Ireland, Apple and the European Commission have two months to decide whether they want to appeal the last court decision and possibly transfer it to the highest court of the EU.
