Rosneft intends to buy a part of the business of the oilfield services IDS Group in order to increase its independent well drilling capabilities. IDS is one of Rosneft's leading contractors on Yuganskneftegaz, an asset that produces one third of the company's total production. Rosneft began expanding its oilfield services division several years ago after public criticism of private drillers for too expensive services and market monopolization.
