Duke Energy plans to double its renewable energy production to 16 GW by 2025 and to 40 GW by 2050, decommissioning coal-fired power plants and reducing coal production. Implementation of the plans will lead to an increase in capital expenditures: in the first 5 years by $2 billion to $58 billion, and from 2025 to 2029 will be in the range of $65 - $75 billion.
