RusHydro, together with leading Russian research institutes, has started a large-scale study of the carbon balance of its HPP reservoirs. The measurements will be carried out over three years at nine large reservoirs in different natural and climatic zones. The goal of the study is to verify the results of the 2017-2019 study through in-situ observations. Lomonosov Moscow State University. Then it was found that the reservoirs of hydroelectric power plants in Russia not only do not emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but also absorb significant amounts of carbon, accumulating it in the bottom sediments.
