Norilsk Nickel has launched the unique Norda tunnel boring machine at the Taimyrsky mine. The key advantage of the new technology is the complete abandonment of the traditional drilling and blasting method: instead of explosions, the method of mechanical rock breaking is used, which allows for mining at greater depths without additional ventilation costs. In 2026, the company plans to extract 150,000 tons of ore using the Norda machine, with a subsequent increase to 0.5 million tons.
