The company was founded in 1917 as a manufacturer of aircraft engines, but later became one of the largest automakers in the world. Bayerische Motoren Werke produces cars under the BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce brands, and motorcycles - under the BMW Motorrad brand. The group includes 31 production and assembly facilities in 15 countries, as well as a global distribution network.

BMW announced the start of a share buyback program worth up to €2 billion. The buyback will last until December 2023. Almost all of the repurchased shares will be redeemed.

BMW has commissioned an electric vehicle assembly plant in China. The plant is equipped with production lines capable of producing cars in line with market demand. The first model to roll off the assembly line will be the BMW i3 mid-size electric sports sedan. The plant will increase BMW's annual production volume in China from 700,000 to 830,000 vehicles.
