AeroVironment has tested a high-altitude solar-powered pseudo-satellite - Sunglider. During the tests, the object reached an altitude of 62,500 feet above sea level and successfully launched a mobile broadband connection - LTE. Using standard smartphones, the Spaceport America team made several video calls through the pseudo-satellite network while it circled the stratosphere for over 5 hours. The development and testing of Sunglider is funded by the AeroVironment and SoftBank joint venture - HAPSMobile.
