U.S. is considering a bill on competition and transparency in digital advertising that, if passed, would force Google to downsize its business in this area. The bill would prohibit companies earning more than $20 billion a year in digital advertising transactions from participating in more than one part of the ad placement process. In Q1 2022, Alphabet earned $68.01 billion, of which $54.66 billion came from advertising. If the law passes, the company will have to choose which part of the business it wants to stay in.
