Gazprom has signed an additional contract with Azerbaijan's SOCAR to supply up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas until March 2023. Russian company supplied gas to Azerbaijan from 2000 to 2006. Then, due to the increase in production from the Shah Deniz field, supplies stopped. However, they resumed in 2017-2018, but then Azerbaijan again refused Russian gas. Last month, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said the country intends to double its fuel supplies to Europe amid an almost complete halt of Russian gas supplies to that market.
