MMC Norilsk Nickel closes its pyrometallurgical shop at Kola MMC in Monchegorsk. The last casting of copper anodes was made on March 1, and reflection furnaces and converters were shut down. Closing of the pyrometallurgy will make it possible to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions in Monchegorsk to less than 30,000 tons per year. Dismantling of production facilities and buildings will start in 2022, said Vadim Menshenin, head of the metallurgical shop.
