U.S. Department of Defense has proposed a package of measures that, according to the agency, would eliminate the possibility of buying critical American technology from China's SMIC, the Wall Street Journal reports. However, a number of Commerce Department officials are trying to block the measures proposed by the DOD. SMIC has been on the U.S. sanctions list since 2020, restricting its ability to purchase U.S. equipment, but the company has found ways around the ban and continues to make purchases.
