Center for Economic Development, Transport and Environment of Southwest Finland approved Nornickel's project to expand its production site in Harjavalta. In April 2021, the company reported plans to increase the capacity of Nornickel Harjavalta, which produces nickel and cobalt for batteries, by 1.5 times. In the first phase, production will increase from 65,000 tons to 75,000 tons in 2023. In the second phase, production will increase to more than 100,000 tons by early 2026.
