Foreign shareholders of the Arctic LNG-2 project, including TotalEnergies, CNPC, CNOOC, Mitsui and JOGMEC, have declared force majeure due to US sanctions. This refers to the abrogation of financing obligations and LNG contracts. At the same time, the Chinese and Japanese companies have requested the US authorities about the possibility to withdraw LNG supplies from the sanctions. For the time being, Arctic LNG-2 will have to sell gas on the spot market.
