Indian refiners plan to gradually reduce Russian oil imports under U.S. pressure to curb purchases amid sanctions on Moscow. U.S. President Donald Trump said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured India would halt Russian oil buying. From April to September 2025, Russian crude accounted for 36% of India’s oil imports, down from 40% a year earlier at 1.75 million barrels per day. India said its priority remains stable energy prices and supply security.
